OBS blocks changing your canvas resolutions, encoding and recording settings whilst you have an output session active.

An output session would be any one of the following:

• Streaming (Normal or Vertical)
• Recording (Normal or Vertical)
• Virtual Camera (Normal or Vertical)
• Replay Buffer / Backtrack (Normal or Vertical)

Check Backtrack Settings

Since we’ve added the ability to have Backtrack always turned on, we’ve found that it is usually disregarded as a reason why you can’t change settings, but it very much is a reason.

If you have the Backtrack always on enabled, you will not be able to modify settings. Disable it whilst you want to change settings and enable it once you’re done.
